Catholic leaders assail HHS mandate forcing coverage of abortifacient drugs, sterilization and contraceptives
Although Catholic leaders vowed to fight on, the Obama administration has turned down repeated requests from Catholic bishops, hospitals, schools and charitable organizations to revise its religious exemption to the requirement that all health plans cover contraceptives including abortifacient drugs and sterilization free of charge.

Federal judicial panel rules California Proposition 8 unconstitutional
By a 2-1 vote, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the California ban on same-sex marriage, saying that it violates the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees citizens due process and equal protection under the law.

At rally, large crowd opposes redefining marriage in Maryland
Hundreds of supporters of traditional marriage gathered in Annapolis Jan. 30 calling for a defeat of legislation seeking to redefine marriage in the state. Residents from across Maryland stood shoulder to shoulder in a courtyard outside the historic statehouse holding signs reading "Defend Marriage," and "Safeguard the Sacrament."

For young pro-lifers, this is 'our time, our privilege to stand up for life'
On Monday, Jan. 23, my morning started in the cold breeze outside the Verizon Center in Washington, crowded with hundreds by the doors waiting to rush in at 7:30 a.m. sharp. We weren't in line to see Harry Potter or Twilight (though I've been that person too), or a basketball game or a concert; instead we were eagerly waiting to walk inside those doors and celebrate Mass to start our long day, the March for Life on our nation's capitol. This year marked the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a decision made before many of us were even born, but a decision that deeply affects us all, as we live without a third of our generation as a result.

Donors say Cardinal's Appeal allows them to share God's love with others
This weekend of Feb. 4-5, the 2012 Cardinal's Appeal will be launched at the 140 parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Washington. The theme for the appeal is "Seek First the Kingdom of God," from Matthew 6:33. In recent interviews, donors reflected on why supporting the appeal is important to them.
